Kiran Kumar (Kashmiri: किरण कुमार (Devanagari), کرن کمار (Nastaleeq)) is a Mumbai-based Kashmiri Indian actor. He has worked in many Hindi and Gujarati films. He has been the main hero in most of the Gujarati movies[citation needed]. He is the son of veteran character actor Jeevan
Personal life
Kumar is married to once upon a time actress Sushma Verma who happened to star in some Gujarati films with Kiran himself.[citation needed]As a matter of fact it is on the set of one such movie where they happened to meet for the first time.[citation needed] They have two children: Vikas Kumar who is currently working with David Dhawan as an Assistant Director and Srishti, a Mass Media graduate who also runs a Jewelery label with Sushma called "Sush & Shish".
Kiran Kumar is a Kashmiri by birth and has ties with the Royal Family by virtue of being the grand son of the Vazir-e-Vazarat of Gilgit.[1]
Recently he has been honoured with the life membership of International Film And Television Club of Asian Academy Of Film & Television by the President of the society Sandeep Marwah.
Career
He attended Daly College, a boarding school in Indore. He enrolled at R. D. National College in Bandra, Mumbai, and later joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTTI) in Pune.[1] As a young boy it was the film industry which drew him because of his father's association with it[citation needed].
Sunil Mehta's Prem Kishan was his first television serial[when?]. He went on to work for many other television serials including Zindagi, Ghutan, Sahil, Manzil, Katha Sagar, Aur Phir ek Din, Papa (B4U).
Kumar starred in Do Boond Pani in 1971, and went on to play the villain in several films. His was noted in the role of Lothia Pathan in Tezaab.
Kumar's foray into the small screen was with a Cinevista production. "In Cinevista's Zindagi I played Benjamin Gilani's father. It was very beautifully executed by Ved Rahi. When Cinevista approached me again ten years later, for Ghutan, I took it on as I wanted to get back to television and restore the association." Kiran Kumar's old pal, Prem Kishen grins at the thought of his friend. "We grew up together. His father and my father were friends." But that is not the only reason why Kiran Kumar is a Cinevista favourite. "Kiran Kumar puts in a lot of effort into the character he plays, and it shows on the screen. And as a producer, I know that you can come out with a good product only when everybody puts in their best.
